Home Improvement Projects

One of the things that needed to be fixed when we moved in was the patio doors. We had planned on just replacing them, but when Dad was here he gave us a way to fix them so we could put off having to buy new doors for awhile. We are happy to say this is one project we did pretty much all by ourselves. Well we had a little help from Pastor and very specific step step instructions from dad, but still we exucuted it ourselves so that should count for something. :) So here are pictures of the before, sanding, the primer, and for now the finished coat. We'll put another coat on this spring after we hopefully have both doors opening and had a little more practice with painting. I believe the proper quote dad shared with us for this situation is "at least its clean."

The other project we did this weekend was door knobs. When we moved in EVERY door in the house had an outside door knob that needed keys to unlock. Very weird! And of course we didn't have keys to them either. Seemed like a disaster waiting to happen so we went and got 13 new door knobs and changed all the doors to normal inside ones. They look nice and well it just makes more sense. No pictures of them though. Thought that'd be a little cheezy. :)

Some house pics

As you can tell I'm on break and Logan's at work so I have lots of time to catch up the blog. :) So these are nothing to do with Christmas really, but some house pictures. The first ones are of the 3rd bedroom upstairs (it was the extra room whre all the stuff got dumped into when we moved in). We had never posted pictures of it really because we're not doing much with it.We were given a trundle bed from one of the teachers at school and a mattress from another friend so we've got it "set- up" as another guest room. :) Then there is a picture of the hallway and the middle room which is our office/clothes drying room since it has a ceiling fan. For the sake of trying to picture our house along the back of the house runs a hallway. On the one end is the bathroom and our bedroom. Then the office and then the 3rd bedroom is on the opposite corner.
The last two pictures are of our Christmas gift from G & G Mandel. They sent us some Christmas money and we used some of it to buy a rug for the living room. It's hardword floor and we've been wanting one since we moved in, but never found one we liked. Well, the other night at the mall we found one we liked and got it. Its a little bolder than we would usually go with, but we love the look of it and love having something on the floor now that it's getting a little bit colder.

Christmas Downtown 2011

As I put up the last of the Christmas pictures I'm watching one of my favorite Hallmark movies- National Tree. This year the movie fits even more as the National tree this year is a new one. This summer the old one got knocked down in a storm so if you've seen our pictures from years past you'll notice it's smaller. As we walked through the city from the Capital to the Ellipse last night we were once again talking about how it is still amazing to us that we live here. Back when we met in 2005 we never would've guessed where life would take us. Now it's Christmas of 2011 and we're married and own a house in the "suburbs" of Washington D.C. spending Christmas Day walking through the city. Who would've thought? Even though we've been here 5 1/2 years, downtown-especially at night- is still awe inspiring. Somehow standing and looking at the huge tree with the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial in the background can't be beat. So while we missed Christmas in the midwest with our families it was fun to have our own Lenhart Christmas in OUR house. It'll be fun to see what traditions we started this year we continue next year and what cool things 2012 will bring. If I've learned anything over the last 11 years I'm not even going to try to guess cause whatever I come up with God will top. :) So Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from April & Logan!

Christmas Day 2011

Christmas Day! We slept in due to our late night :) and then opened our stockings. After that it was Cinnabon time before opening our other gifts. After that we chilled until Skyping with mom and dad while we opened the gifts they had left us at Thanksgiving. We got fun stuff that we'll enjoy using-tool box, cow shaped solar light (picture later), cutting board, and stuff to pick crabs with. Then we cooked dinner-stuffed pork chops, broccoli salad, veggies, and rolls before heading downtown to see the Capital tree and the National tree and Pagent of Peace. As always lots of people, but fun to see. Pictures are on the next post.

Christmas Eve 2011

As we mentioned before Logan and I were on our own for Christmas this year. While we missed our families, I do have to say it was relaxing and kinda fun to start what may become our own traditions. For Christmas Eve Logan had to work 11:00am-9:30pm. Thankfully he got off at 6:30 so we made some Christmas shaped pizzas and started watching the 24hr marathon of The Christmas Story before we headed to 11:00 church so Logan could sing and I could play bells. After church we came home for some cheesecake, more Christmas Story and snuggles on the couch before we went to bed at 2am.
